How To Prepare
Typically, patients require no preparation or dietary restrictions. However, certain conditions may prevent you from having an MRI examination. You should inform your doctor or alert the staff if you are pregnant, have ever been a metal worker, or if you have had surgery to your eyes, ears, or brain.
Also, please inform the staff if you have any of the following:
- Artificial heart valve
- Metal implants
- Cochlear implants
- Aneurysm clips
- Shrapnel or bullet fragments
- Implanted drug infusion device
- Intrauterine device (IUD)
- Recent tattoo
You will be asked to leave all coins, jewelry, watches, keys, credit cards, hair pins, glasses, hearing aids, and any other metallic objects in the secured changing booth. Because they may contain metallic particles, it is best not to wear any makeup when having a Head or Neck MRI.
What to Expect
The MRI Procedure will take from 30 to 60 minutes to complete. For your convenience, you may bring your favorite CD or choose one from our music list to listen to during the scan. During the exam, patients lie comfortably on a scanning bed which is open on all four sides. Our expert staff is available throughout the procedure to answer questions and assist you. When the exam is completed, you may resume your normal activities immediately unless instructed otherwise by a physician. Our board-certified radiologist will report the exam finding directly to your physician.
